Bio

For designer and artist Shelley Barr, "God is in the details". This belief has earned her the affectionate nickname "the detail lady". Whether Shelley is creating a textile wallhanging or a mixed media collage on canvas, it's her attention to minute details that makes the difference in her unique creations.

From an early age Shelley embraced her God given creative talents. Being inspired at an early age by her Nova Scotia home with it's rugged coastline, rolling hills and quaint villages; her grandmothers teaching her to quilt and knit; her parents encouraging her to try her hand at painting, drawing and photography; a family trip to New York city touring it's fine art galleries including an awe inspiring visit to the Metropolitan Museum; the direction for her life was established.

After a number of successful years as a residential interior designer in Nova Scotia, Shelley made the move to Victoria, B.C. Canada in 1978. There she enjoyed a prosperous and challenging career in design and management for several of Victoria's leading design firms. Over the years this also led her into the visual display field, art sales and publishing. By 1993 after many years in these hectic fields Shelley decided it was time for a lifestyle change. Shelley opened her own studio to design "one of a kind" creations from luxury designer textiles and trims - promoting her quilts, pillows, and clothing through artisan shows, markets and retail stores.

In 2004, Shelley relocated to the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island. At that time, Shelley's art work evolved in a new direction. She was inspired to incorporate hand made papers, text and collage techniques in her wallhangings, pillows and paintings. Her art work continued to evolve into an expression of her Christian faith by incorporating inspirational verses and spiritual images.

Shelley continues to enjoy living in the Comox Valley with the mountain views and beautiful coastlines that remind her so much of her Nova Scotia home. Her studio is a hub of activity as wallhangings, pillows and paintings are created at the same time in different work areas of "Shelley's Studio". Things have been especially busy of late as Shelley has been focused on designing work for her new web site and is more excited than ever with the new opportunity to share her God inspired art work with the world ~ for His Glory!
